Points are awarded based on place (1-6) in an event as follows

1st - 10     2nd - 8     3rd - 6     4th - 4     5th - 2     6th - 1

at the state meet, however, points are awarded to the top 9 as follows

1st - 10     2nd - 8     3rd - 7     4th - 6     5th - 5     6th - 4     7th - 3     8th - 2     9th - 1
